ADHD Treatment with the Amino Acid Acetyl-L-Carnitine - a Recent Study

We have long considered that the symptoms of ADHD could be reduced, and perhaps fully treated, by the use of amino acids and the help of specific ADD diets. Now a study from Italy has more support for our position, that are not prescription drugs, particularly stimulants, the only effective ADHD treatments.

The Italian study was the effectiveness of only one amino acid in a given population of ADHD children whoknown as poor responders to stimulant treatment - children with Fragile X syndrome and ADHD symptoms. Fragile X syndrome is the most common inherited form of mental disability, and many children on the condition also have ADHD, or at least the symptoms of ADHD inventory.

Over the years, stimulants like Ritalin used to treat ADHD symptoms in these children, but with mixed or poor response time. Stimulants often caused the childrento be irritable, less verbal, and be taken back more often. The researchers examined the possibility that could be the amino acid L-acetyl carnitine (LAC) in reducing ADHD symptoms helpful, but without the side effects.

Acetyl-L-carnitine or acetyl-L-carnitine, was investigated in patients with dementia of the Alzheimer's disease, and the treated group showed some improvement in short-term memory tasks, such as the names of Learning test and the digit recall test. Also inComputerized testing, such as the TOVA, there have been improvements in the response scores. The results showed that L-acetyl-carnitine may have a positive effect on some characteristics of Alzheimer's dementia, especially those related to short-term memory into context. Acetyl-L-carnitine is also investigated in Huntington's disease, with positive effects on movement disorders and dementia.

Acetyl-L-carnitine and L-carnitine is an amino acid that is normally synthesized in the liver from lysine andMethionine. It is the precursor of acetylcholine and is consistent with lipoic acid in its many functions.

Carnitine is an important role in the transfer of fatty acids through the membrane of the energy furnaces of the mitochondria of cells. Without Carnitine fats can not be burned. Carnitine is the most useful unit known, and indeed important in the mobilization of fat deposits, helps the body in the natural elimination of toxic ketone bodies from fat leftMetabolism.

The research team from the Università Cattolica in Rome studied 51 boys aged 6 to 12, with both fragile X syndrome and ADHD diagnosed. It was a double blind study, so that the boys were in two groups that received the amino acid treatment and divided the other a placebo. They study lasted for one year has to be evaluated with the guys at the beginning (baseline), after six months, and after one year.

The boys treated with acetyl-L-carnitine showed a significantImprovements. They were less hyperactive and had improved attention and concentration, and without the side effects that are expected in this population of treatment with stimulants. In fact, there were no adverse side effects caused by the amino group ever reported. The boys also had intelligence, but there were no significant gains in IQ tests done.

"We propose to Latin America and the Caribbean is recommended for the treatment of ADHD in FXS children," the authors ", since iteffectively reduces hyperactive behavior and improves social abilities without adverse side effects have. "They also suggest that these results for children with autism can not easily tolerate stimulants.

We have personally observed studies and the positive results from treatment with a combination of amino acids, lipid complexes, and homeopathic medicines Attend with ADD children. And we recommend that parents and doctors more accurately set apartalternative treatment.

Living and the Loss of Stigma

The science of pharmacology has succeeded in bringing to the fore many of the mental health issues that plague Americans today. Due to the nature of advertising, manufacturers have the fastest method of de-stigmatization made available. Taboo topics that were once taboo is now openly discussed and the consumer a reason to hope. Such a condition is checked as Bipolar Disorder, a very difficult disease. The name was changed from bipolar disorder manic depression, to dispel the stigmathe disorder, because the "with which it was" like the plague. Thieves, murders, rapists ... they were held to a lesser requirements than the manic-depressive.

Although self-serving and develop for the purposes of the stock holders and finance, pharmaceutical and drug companies continue to sell consumers find very important in life. If we have to justify the onslaught of advertising information on a particular disease such as mental illness it would come in the form ofRelief, there are those who expect a lack of hope and rely on medication to exist only, or with every new pill ... there is a cure. Through pharmacology, a once-closed door can be opened, Symptoms eradicated a lifelong illness, answered prayers and longevity are retrieved. It is exhausting trial and error, can make up drugs, but the end justifies the means.

Scientific researchers need not be denied their place of importance. When they study the body, they bring knowledge to the tablethat one day can change lives and change the direction of a disease of people divided. We are fortunate to live in this age of discovery. We have the benefit of investigators who are curious by nature philanthropists. They are not on the symptoms, they will dramatically change the future generations an understanding of our genomics. Scientists today are more sophisticated, they are not of the "lobotomy" generation. But they will dissect the brain, if you donate itScience.

Drugs, research and psychotherapy at the fifty yard line found. If stigma exists, it is often families, as they perpetuate the stigma by denying the illness, or embarrassed, as if it were their own. Consumer perpetuate the stigma of the internalization of the disease as if it were their fault. It is neither. The goal is to work together as a unit. Stigma pushes the ill lose back, eyes to the goal. Support groups are a great way to shed off theAncient beliefs and the new. Whether in person or in the wonderful world wide web, support is available.

Thus, the role of pharmacology in the psychological well-being is important, but there are paying a heavy price. People with mental illness have captured an audience and statistics prove it so. In essence, I suppose you do not have to search for information on their medical miracles, the ads come to you eventually, even if it ... in-between your TV shows.

What Parents Can Do To Help An ADHD Child

No doubt that, as a parent, said that your child an ADHD child will unleash a flood of often contradictory feelings in you.

You may feel that things are suddenly a little "wrong" and that you no longer have your life or that of your child, either.

You may be a terrible feeling, but of course, waves of sadness, disappointment and regret.

In a way, you might even blame themselves for the fact that your childhas been diagnosed, an ADHD child.

Amid all these conflicting feelings and emotions, it is very important not to lose sight of a crucial fact.

That is, it is not the end of the world and the fact that your child is now "officially" change an ADHD child, you or your not one jot!

(You need the fact that many, many children diagnosed with ADHD have to accept or related ADD) will ultimately be seen to gifts andTalents that far exceeds their "disability"?

There are several ways you can help your ADHD child care, and use his (or her) "special" talent, and thus dealing with ADHD.

The first and perhaps most important step is to know exactly what it is that you have to do by knowing your research and familiarize yourself with everything you about ADHD.

Quite simply, the more so that you know what as an ADHD childMeans to your child, the more will help you in the position to them. They will be better equipped to help your child understand and their particular problems.

They would also be able to teach about some of the most popular or common ADHD treatments, and be better prepared to face what might happen next. In this way you can position yourself to help your ADHD child to better cope with their situation in order to teach them more about their condition and a responseIssues or questions they might have.

Additionally, you will be informed in readying your child to the doctor trying to successfully manage their disease, for commercial purposes be.

In consultation with your doctor, you have very seriously whether you will accept that give your child medicine. This is off course by several factors, such as the extent and seriousness of the accident from your ADHD child'', and is also held atat least to some extent on your own opinion.

At the end of the day, such a decision, a very personal one, that only you can make.

Some parents have claimed that the administration of drugs or medication to give your ADHD child to live the best chance of leading as normal as possible and that, therefore, such drugs are a good choice.

For others, a particular medication "last resort", is something that they do not actually turn up any otherfails.

But no matter which way you decide to take, you have that decision based on knowledge and certainty, rather than to make guesses about!

Even if you should decide that the use of drugs to go the right way for you and your child is, you should not lose sight of the fact that you continue to have with your child manage ADHD behavior as well.

By teaching them the basics of what is an appropriate behavior and what is not, will prepare your childfor life, and teaches them the skills they need in order to increase efficiency and productivity in later years.

The strategies, plans and rules to be your child needs to come to you. It is absolutely crucial that a child with ADHD has clearly defined limits on their actions and determined that they must be taught to keep these guidelines.

You must be prepared to support your child at any time, no matter how difficult their behavior can sometimeswill. They should have their strongest supporter, and you need them all that they, in order to be successful.

Whether they are at home or at school, it is your job to help your child grow into a confident, self-confident and happy person.

Instead the focus or the focus on the negative side of which one child has ADHD, you should try to recognize their potential and try to help them to do the same. Make sure that they always know to what extentThey appreciate and love them.

An ADHD child is often vulnerable to a certain degree of depression and low self-esteem, you must be aware and prepared for this case.

You need willing and able to take the necessary measures to meet this situation, sir, never forgetting that we always try to expert assistance should the situation require it.

Finally, at all possible, never allow either yourself or your ADHD child to be isolated and cut-offfrom the others. If possible, find and meet a good support group and to interact with others in the same situation as you.

It is often the case that a common problem to reduce the load on you, and the advice that you can get from a parent who has been selling through a similar situation, is probably the best advice you ever hope can get to.

Do not think that is an ADHD child in the home at the end of the world be led astray.

DoLet yourself be treated as such, and the quality of life for you and your child will be infinitely extended to ADHD.

Advantages For Group Therapy to Treat PTSD

Group therapy helps you build relationships with others who understand, have not experienced what you have PTSD group has a number of advantages, including providing a natural support group, the ability to reach more patients and greater cost efficiency. It can also help you feel more in control of your emotions, have fewer symptoms and enjoy life again.

A growing proportion of PTSD patients now receive successful treatment as more was learned about the condition and ismultiple drugs are used to fight the often devastating effects on the health and quality of life. Group therapy is one of the therapies which have been found very advantageous, since the groups are rather small in general, and the survivors can get to know and feel comfortable in small groups. So now therapists suggest that group therapy as a form of processing the trauma.

Sharing with the group can also help you in confidence and trust. Participants withTrauma symptoms and depression in a group may also considerably improved trauma symptoms and depression, it can also reduce symptoms by those affected to talk about the incident to express feelings and share their experiences with the organization.

One reason is that the treatment is often unsought, by the victims of the condition is that virtually any address or a discussion of the trauma is bound to be very painful, and stirs in the sacrifice of memories and emotionstied back to the event. This is a group where has its advantages, they need not to sign or fill out any forms, or the feeling that visitors will be prosecuted to the group back to them, for employment reasons or for family reasons, all very antonyme

It is recommended that the beginning of each meeting PTSD group that did an inspirational reading or other form of centering for the survivors, it is best if you are there not any kind of denominational affiliation with groups orReligions feel like a threat to them. Then close the end of the session, a different way, so that all visitors receive the emotional balance before they leave.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder for more than 10 million people in the U.S. by the National Institutes of Health experience, and this number grows with the veterans returning from war, group meetings, a positive effect on psychological distress, depression, fear and social adjustment for theSurvivors. It is also very inexpensive and many are not stabilize in a position to hold productive jobs.

How to Set Up a Behavioral Management Plan For Your ADHD Child

Children were diagnosed with ADHD are at a much higher risk of developing non-compliant or negative behaviors attention as a child, that does not mean more than ADHD. The particular characteristics of ADHD that the child will have difficulties with self-control that be listening, instructions at home and school, and following directions. Some children seem to be predisposed to the behavior problems that develop through their temperament, but the symptoms of ADHD(Hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention) seem to only reinforce to these negative behaviors. The management of these negative behaviors often lead to full-time job for parents.

Treatment of ADHD children usually require a multi-faceted and multi-modal approach to say that the approach is comprehensive in nature. This approach includes supporting the school, medication, if necessary, parent-child education, what is ADHD and its treatment, and finallyBehavior-management techniques. Managing negative behaviors a child with ADHD often seem like an overwhelming and difficult task, but the management of these practices through the creation of a good behavior management plan is not insurmountable and can be quite useful if done right there.

Behavior Modification, is a system of rewarding positive behavior with the aim of increasing the frequency of their occurrence and on the other hand, decreases the incidence of negativePractices with the goal of decreasing their incidence. Most children with ADHD benefit from a behavior plan is clear and concise with measurable objectives.

How to set up a behavior management plan:

1.) Choose a negative behavior that you want to change and a positive behavior that you or wants to start see. I suggest you decide for a behavior that your child will be able to change and may begin to start doing it. It is not very motivating for aChildren not in their first attempts. Your child will want to give up immediately. (to be in the selection of behaviors you began to see or change how often you want to see it happen, specific, and how often they will be rewarded.)

Are examples of behaviors you began to see: your child makes the bed every day, unloading the dishwasher, does the dinner on time, or an A in math. Choose a behavior that can be easily achieved at first.

Examples of behaviors you do not want moreare: refusing to get out of bed in the morning, interrupting when others speak, refuses to return calls or complete homework. As parents, you know the behaviors you started and stopped in to see your child.

2.) Second, setting up a home token economy, to implement your behavior management plan. Let's start with the definition of what is a sign the economy. A token economy is simply a contract between the child and the parents stating that if a child acts or behaves in a way theParents are committed to the sign for a special reward or privilege of trading.

In setting up a token economy, focus on only a few goals at a time. Their behavior plan can be as short or as long as you want, but I've found, the more complicated the behavior plan with the goal behavior less likely that the plan will succeed. Start small and keep it simple. Pick behaviors that you like to see changed, that are most affected you and your child and also goals that youhow to start for your child. Allow your child in setting up the behavior plan be included, but do not let them manipulate you. Make sure to note the behavior you began to see and stopped. When a child is a part of the plan and is able to pluck the fruits and the consequences they work harder in general to achieve it.

Assign start seeing a token value for each behavior you want, and stopped. Be careful not to try and change too many behaviors at once. Select oneValue of 1 to 25 characters. To work for the plan to the value of the token must be high enough to really want your child the particular behavior change. (We are all incentives for work!) Behavior that you see are really changed those who have a greater symbolic value and also those that are difficult to change.

Sample Behavior Graph:

Behavioral token value to start Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat
Make the bed5
Unloading the dishwasher 10
Out of bed from 7.30 Clock 20

Earned a total of 35 tokens

To stop behavior token value Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat
Interrupts other 10
If it refuses, homework make up 15
Poor grades in school every day 15

A total of 40 tokens Lost

Set up a convenient time, every day in your child's performance review for that day and determine how manyMarks were earned or lost. The behavior is planned to be implemented every day and a running tab should be on the set of tokens they have held and how many are "rewarded" privileges to redeem /. For the behavior you do not want to lose that amount of tokens or a fine and behaviors that you see, to begin, he or she continues to want that amount of tokens. To be effective, must be a fine to be strong enough to prevent the child from the display the behavior.

Aftera token program, now you need the program to explain to your child in language they can understand. Be positive and tell them we have a program where he / she can earn rewards and / or privileges for behavior in a positive way, developed. You will probably balk at this first, after all, what they were given rewards that they deserve all the time not really.

Proceed given to your child about the height of the characters are lost or for positive and negative behaviors that areCounting every day. Explain to them that is the token "to" privileges to redeem and explain the "cost" of individual rights and when and where the opportunities / privileges can be used. Give you frequent opportunities to exchange, to the signs of rewards or privileges. Assign a number for each wage or privilege to use them.

Awards or benefits, I have found, to be effective with children, if I have set up a behavior modification plan with them and their parents are: Do you see a movie,going for ice to go to McDonald's to get a new outfit from the store when friends come over, go out with friends, seeing more time to watch television, or more time with video games. Example of symbolic value for rewards as follows: sleeping on a friend's house = 35 characters, will = 10 McDonald's tokens, see a movie = 25 characters, etc. .. Keep the cost of the premiums low, so that they can use a reward every day. Keep the amount of tokens they have in use and haveleft.

Be sure to reinforce positive behavior as often as possible and give your child praise for their efforts. Positive behavior should be immediately strengthened. Do not give Second or third chance. If they have a negative attitude then they should lose tokens. If you give weaken, second or third chance, you made the behavior and self-sabotage.

How do we keep the program going:

• Make sure the child is able to see their progress, go about theirBehavior plan with them so they can see progress towards its goals
• Change the behavior plan (if necessary) when you see that the behavior plan is not working and your child is not one of the goals. Discuss the plan with them
• Clarify the whole family. Answer all questions. If everyone is made in the family about what is ADHD and they understand the aims, everyone is more likely to cooperate. Everyone must be on board. ADHD is an issue forthe whole family
• Have a backup plan if the behavior plan is not working. If goals are not met then "repair" the plan
• Expect to reach your goals. A positive attitude goes a long way to achieving success. If you expect then of course you do not!
• If you find that you'll take on "the towel" and give the behavior plan then it is time to receive support from outside of the mental health, family, friends, teachers. Getall on board. Nobody expects that you do not win it alone, and outside support to help you stay on track and following the objectives
• approach the problem from a team perspective. Brainstorm, Brainstorm, Brainstorm. Everyone in the family should be in compliance with this would be included. The old expression, "Two heads are better than one" here refers to any event
• Target the most pressing problem areas. Do not try to fix too many things. They are doingso
• Above all, stay consistent and not scream. Get help from as many people as you do not and try to do to do this alone

To prevent relapse:

• There is no safe way to backslide then get to the start of long arguments and discussions with your child about the behavior plan. Of course they are going to want to get rid of or change the behavior plan. Everything that is new or different in general resistance
• Accept that your child has ADHD. It is End of the world. If you stay positive and calm, your child will be much easier to change their behavior. Keep your perspective here
• Take advantage of the support of all you can. Join a support group in your community or a forum for parents on-line. There is nothing worse than feeling like you're alone in this
• Keep your goals in sight. Remember, tomorrow is another day and the sun will still shine. Nothing lasts forever
• Learn more about> ADHD and read whenever you can. Ignorance is not bliss
• Hope is a wonderful thing to keep us on our toes and practice forgiveness of your child every day
• Double your efforts when you feel abandoned
• Enter your behavior management plan time to work. Remember that change can have long-term effects will take time. Nothing happens over night

Support Groups For PTSD Survivors Can Help

Trauma of any kind has a long-lasting effect on individuals, and it is important that PTSD (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder) survivors know that it will help and be OK with the request for help. Shame plays a large role in PTSD and many victims feel that they are weak because they can not treat one of their lives. Then they have the survival behaviors that are not, in fact, they even used to develop a vicious cycle begins.

When PTSD survivor's pension problems and feelings are not recognized and honoredso real and they are no longer heard, understood, recognized, for these feelings it creates, that they're in pain and dysfunction from their trauma. Then there is the denial and other forms of trauma sets of people and other areas, because the requirements do not comply by the victims. Often this can lead to acting out can be traumatized in socially unacceptable behavior and various types of dependencies, the development of PTSD survivors.

To relax yourself and self-helpcan be very scary, as shame and do not want people to know there is something wrong with them over whelming for them. Many feel that if it is kept secret and just try again and again, looks normal, knowing no one, and maybe, just maybe it will get better. This creates larger and darker circles around them, and they tend to think that there is no way out

Recovery PTSD can usually slow and it is accepted than in small baby steps mentioned and if there are setbacksand only slowly moving forward again. Here, support groups and coaching the game and will be very useful for recovery. PTSD survivors must be heard and to be able to about their feelings and without trial or comparisons, and to feel that they have a voice in what their pain is the question.

Many times change is a big challenge, because the trauma can almost feel like her friend, for it is the only emotion that can feel them, and if that goes away, they would not.This is as emotional numbness and it is very difficult and confusing, and only small steps in the examination of this is over, what can work for them to see that it's ok to let go of the trauma.

Support groups are great because all the members of their coping strategies and new ideas and methods can shares can be shared, learned and developed. Many times PTSD survivors have an aversion to therapists as authority figures, which they either fear or confidence, because no one representedwas there to protect them. In the groups that they will support all survivors, and with each other can be identified.

In the groups each individual is asked to explain and share their own experiences and traumas and the other members compared stories and found the similarities rather than differences, which have together and look at the individual stocks in their growth together.

ADHD and Adults - New Survey Reveals Greater Problems

Children, adolescents and adults can all suffer from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. ADHD impacts about 5% of children and adolescents, and about 3% of all adults. Less than half of children with ADHD ever made-they grow into adolescence or adulthood. If left untreated, the disease can have long-term adverse effects into adolescence and adulthood.

It is important to remember that many or most, children with ADHD never really grow out the problems> ADHD brings. This has been well documented, and was further discussed in detail by recent studies of ADHD and depression in women.

Recently published a further reminder of this was demonstrated in a national survey of 1007 adults with ADHD. The survey looked at how adults with ADHD cope at home, at work and in relationships with others. The survey was published just in time for the 2008 Chadd Conference and the 2008 ADHD National AwarenessDay.

As the survey showed that of the adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder:

75% reported that ADHD strongly affected their ability, a task long enough to remain fully focused on;
70% reported that ADHD strongly affects their ability to respond to what the others said, concentrate;
65% reported that ADHD strongly influenced their tasks at home;
60% reported that ADHD strongly affect their ability to remain seated witha business meeting, or the organized projects, or follow through with projects until they are completed;
57% reported that ADHD strongly damaging relations with their families and friends;
56% reported that ADHD strongly affect their ability to advance in their job or career;
47% reported that they had ADHD need to work harder than others to reach just about the same amount of work as those without ADHD;

The study group wasasked her what she wants to achieve, or the treatment goals:

50% reported that they want to get organized in her home, and 28% reported that they needed to put their personal finances more organized;
38% reported that they need to get their mood swings under control, and 26% wanted to improve their relationships with others;
36% believed that ADHD symptoms were not yet under control, and many report feeling depressed, thinking how hard it is to be an adultwith ADHD.

The study was written by two big names in the ADHD community: Ed (Ned) Hallowell, MD, the important books like "Driven to Distraction has led," and Natalie Knochenhauer, who as mothers of ADHD children has become an important legal in the Philadelphia area.

The study was funded by McNeill Pediatrics, which by the way, markets CONCERTA (methylphenidate HCl) for the treatment of ADHD in adults and in children.Hallowell and Knochenhauer are both paid consultant for McNeill Pediatrics. So there is an element of this study, which is intended to CONCERTA to adults who do not receive treatment, market does not think that their ADHD is under control, etc.

But this study should be more.

IF conservative 5% of children in the U.S. have ADHD, and
IF conservative 50% of children in the U.S. is "out-grow" their ADHD symptoms at age 20 or so, and
If it takes about 300 million people in the U.S.,
Then there are conservative 7500000 adults in the U.S. alone with the "adult ADHD." And if 38% of them believe that their ADHD is under control, or become depressed by their ADHD, and so on, too, is a lot of people with ADHD into adulthood (38% from 7.5 million adults with ADHD is 2,850,000 adults who believe it is out of control or feeling because her depressed > ADHD).

If you are an adult with ADHD, and you will feel that you can not get ahead at work, because they, or you can not get organized or motivated, or their feelings under control, there is help for you .

Yes, you can help, medications such as Concerta. Stimulant medications may help to increase time on task, focus on boring tasks, and so on. Consider drug treatment options and talk to your doctor.

We also try to work like men, the combination of a> ADHD diet (including high protein, low carbohydrate breakfast and some caffeine), with participation, Extress or improve Deprex (for mood stabilization) and Memorin for the memory.

With one of the above concepts, counseling or coaching for ADHD and for the skills and strategies to improve relationships and work performance is essential.
